How can education be connected with the topic of green professions and the career opportunities of the future? This topic is timely, interdisciplinary, and naturally links education with the real world of work. Get inspired by a our new handbook focused on education for sustainable careers.
In cooperation with a team of experienced educators and trainers from the Czech Republic, Finland and Slovenia, we bring you a handbook focused on green jobs, sustainable professions, and the development of skills needed for the future labour market. The methodological worksheets, which form a separate supplement to the handbook, are linked to experiential outdoor learning in the field.
The aim of the handbook is to inspire educators and career counsellors to open up topics related to sustainable professions with pupils and students, and to help them navigate the world of the future. The handbook guides you through the most pressing current global challenges and also looks back into the past, at the origins of career guidance. It offers numerous ideas and reflections on how to discuss the future with young people, and also includes activities for testing the knowledge and skills needed for future green professions.
Part of the methodological materials, which form a separate section of the handbook, encourages outdoor teaching, thereby not only supporting students’ interest in the curriculum content and its practical application, but also improving their orientation in the possibilities of future career pathways. In this way, pupils and students can gain a better understanding of professions related to environmental protection, renewable energy sources, sustainable economy, and green technologies, while at the same time developing the skills required in these fields.
Spending time outdoors in green spaces also has a harmonious effect on the human psyche and creates a natural environment for discovering connections between learning content, the world of work, and social responsibility. It also fosters creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and supports the ability to actively make decisions about one’s own future through career choice.
The handbook was created thanks to the “Green Career Education” project, supported by the Erasmus+ programme, and you can download it free of charge using the link below.
